Population size estimations of free-living animals using the DNA analyses of non-invasive feaces samples

Project is aimed at the population size estimation of the West Carpathian population of brown bear using non-invasive samples of feaces and subsequent fragmentatin analysis of microsatellites of nuclear DNA. For genotyping 12 primers of nDND will be used and one sexual primer (SRY) for sex determination of individual. For population size estimation the CMR (Capture - Mark - Recapture) method will be used. Two subprojects are aimed at the capercaillie and black goruse population size estimation using noninvasive samples and pilot study of otter population size estimation in model territory.
