Alpine ponds as model systems for study of recent environmental changes and dynamics of metacommunities

Due to their small size and specific attributes, high altitude ponds are excellent model ecosystems for various ecological studies and are appreciated as early warning systems of environmental changes. The proposed project is aimed at obtaining the widest possible data sets on pond benthic invertebrate communities, pond environmental variables and sediment samples from ponds of the Tibetan Plateau and the Tatra Mts.
