Climatic conditions, mainly storms, cause damages to forest stands. Although negative impacts of windthrows on forest stands and subsequent economic losses are widely known, negative impacts of windthrows on ecosystems have not been sufficiently reported. On the base of the collected input data combined with the data from forestry records and remote sensing data we will derive a prediction model of site susceptibility to windthrow damage using modern prognostic methods. Forest managers will use these outputs for the optimisation of temporal and spatial planning of forest harvesting with regard to the risk of windthrow occurrence.
